The Khyber Digital Media Centre provides resources to emerging artists in the non-commercial production of digitally-based artwork. The Centre provides access to hardware, software and on-site technical support. The Centre is also a venue for the display and dissemination of digital, new media and computer-based artwork - through on-site exhibitions and on-line projects on the world wide web.

The KDMC will forge connections with other artist-run new media facilities and serve as a nexus where interaction can occur between these centres and between artists and a world-wide audience.

At present the Centre maintains four computer workstations, one PC and three Macs each supporting a variety of software such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, iMovie, Microsoft Office, CD-R and more. There is a tabloid colour inkjet printer, a black and white photocopier/printer, two scanners including a transparency scanner, and a mini Digital Video camera all available for use by KDMC members.

Lucas Dambergs is the KDMC Technician and Administrator. This position has been made possible through the Cultural Human Resources Council Youth Internship Program. top

NEWS  |  March

Here's the big new news - we've won an award! The Khyber Digital Media Centre received the Aliant New Media Prize which was a recognition of our achievements as a new media production facility. The prize is worth $10,000 and will be used to initiate a series of new media residencies. The first four artists to participate in these residencies have already been chosen. They are Stephan Schulz, Shawn McLeod, Valerie Salez and Eleanor King. These artists will be working with Lucas Dambergs to create new works which will be premiered later on this year. We're excited to start this project, and hope to make new media residencies an ongoing program.

Our monthly screening series, now known as the KDMC Media Art Show and Tell is going strong. The screenings take place in the Khyber Club on the last Wednesday of the month. They are an informal place to show new work, work-in-progress and all your old favourites. To be part of a screening, give us a call at 446-4053 and we'll book you a spot. Either way, drop by and check out what other people are doing! top

ONGOING  |  Call for Submissions

We're working on developing our programming here at the Centre, and to do that we need artists to get involved. As well as the residencies and upcoming workshops, we also host public monthly screening nights, and are planning exhibitions of work by our members. In order to secure funding for these programs, and to develop new ones, we need examples of work from our members and new media artists who would like to become involved with the Centre.

The KDMC is issuing an ongoing call for submissions. Proposals should be for new media works (web, interactive, electronic, Flash, computer-based, sound, video etc.).

Proposals should include:

  1. A cover letter introducing your proposal

  2. Slides, videos (VHS, DV tape or DVD), CD-ROMs, list of web links

  3. Curriculum Vitae
  4. Artist's statement about your proposal and the context of the work (max. 2 pages)
  5. Self-addressed, stamped envelope

Proposals may be considered for upcoming screenings, exhibitions, and other programming. If we plan to use your submission in upcoming grant proposals, we will notify you first.

Send your proposals to:
