Pathetic Barbeque - Jason Mombert

May 1 - May 20, 2000 - Khyber Closet

Opening Reception May 1, 7pm

Hot Treats from the Pathetic Grill!

Jason Mombert's installation Pathetic Barbeque showcases his usual brand of artistic endurance and self- flagellation. In a recent installation at Anna Leonowens Gallery Mombert displayed a video of himself being pelted with raw eggs. As the eggs glazed his face and the shells sliced into his skin, Mombert pushed his own limits of endurance as well as those of the viewing audience. In Pathetic Barbeque Mombert will continue his exploration of the consumption of food, of art and of the artist. Mombert draws in his audience in with a glossy, plastic aesthetic and then disgusts them with his almost tortuous acts. He walks the line between celebrating and criticizing himself as an 'art star'. In this site-specific work, the artist will take aim at himself as well as the American family barbeque.

Crowds flocking to the Pathetic Barbeque

The Khyber Closet is an actual closet space above the Khyber Gallery which is quickly regaining its status as an important venue of art installations and experimentation in Halifax.

After the Barbeque, why not stop by the Khyber Club?
